We were recently asked to provide a shutter solution for a couple who had just moved into a beautifully converted barn in Chester. The property featured large bi-fold doors along with a side window, all framed in anthracite, and exposed red brick walls that gave the space real character.
The clients were keen to find a window covering that would complement the modern anthracite frames while still sitting comfortably against the traditional brickwork. As well as looks, they also needed something practical -a solution that would allow good control of light during the day and provide extra insulation during the colder winter months.
After discussing the options, we recommended a matching anthracite tracked shutter system for both the bi-fold doors and the side window. This allowed the shutters to glide smoothly across the opening, making them ideal for large door spans while still being easy to operate on a day-to-day basis.
The anthracite finish tied in perfectly with the existing window frames and created a striking contrast against the red brick walls. Once installed, the shutters completely transformed the space, adding a strong architectural feature while remaining subtle and in keeping with the barn conversion’s character.
From a practical point of view, the shutters give the homeowners full flexibility over light and privacy, while also adding an extra layer of insulation that helps keep the space warmer during winter.
The finished result looked absolutely stunning and the clients were delighted with how well the shutters balanced style, practicality and comfort. Another great example of how the right shutter solution can enhance both modern and traditional homes in Chester.
