How We Became One of the North West’s Most Experienced Shutter Specialists
Living Shutters didn’t begin as a shutter company. Our story starts back in 1997, when my parents founded a family flooring business here in the North West. We operated from both Wilmslow and Chester, and from the very beginning I was involved in the day-to-day running of the company, learning the trade, working with customers, and building a reputation for honest work and quality installations.
In the early 2000s, my sister Elaine joined the business and introduced something new to our showrooms – plantation shutters. At the time, shutters were far less common than they are today, but it didn’t take long to see their potential. Customers loved the clean look, the light control and the way they completely transformed a room.
As demand grew, we began working closely with interior designers through the Wilmslow and Chester stores. Word spread quickly, and before long we were installing shutters across Cheshire and the Wirral for a wide range of clients, including footballers, television personalities and homeowners who simply wanted the very best for their properties.
Over time, shutters became such a large part of the business that it made sense to separate the two companies. Elaine continued to grow Living Floors, which is now a leading wood flooring specialist in its own right, while I took on Living Shutters full time – a company dedicated entirely to designing, supplying and installing bespoke shutters.
Today, I bring over 18 years of hands-on experience in every aspect of shutters, from straightforward installations to complex shaped windows and challenging architectural features. With our background in flooring and working alongside designers, we also understand how shutters fit into the bigger picture of a home’s design – not just as a window covering, but as a key design feature.
We now proudly serve customers across Chester, Cheshire, the Wirral and North Wales, and we’ve built our reputation on quality products, expert installation and honest advice. We regularly take on awkward shapes and difficult jobs that other companies turn down, and that problem-solving experience is what truly sets us apart.
